Days of Thunder (or design)
First off if you have never seen days of thunder can you call yourself american? Classic Tom Cruise movie, its alright nothing too crazy but watch it! This week marks another blog, today I am going to discuss the UX of government run sites. The design, the breakdown the complete and utter poop of it all.
The day is 12/21/2020… I am looking online at how to get plates for a car I just purchased. I search, car plates Virginia DMV. It shoots me over to the dmv site.
I get directed to this. Plain jane site, nothing spectacular about it. Either I am blind because it took me about 10min to find the plate purchasing then I had to go through even more of a hassle. So I opted to drive physically down to the DMV only to be told its appointment only. So I look online to make an appointment… booked through march. Oh so 3 months to get plates to drive? sure sure buddy lemme wait for that *insert eye roll here* . I try to purchase the plates online only to get a title not registered. No real explanations as to how to register or get the plates. The entire UX is archaic. Now not all govt sites are this bad. NYC actually has a really good up to date sites for health care and dmv. Quite easy to navigate, but here in VA its mission impossible.
It’s 2020 folks ! Every state should be investing in clean written and designed sites. It doesnt take much to have someone come in and revamp your sites. Not only would this lead to a probably a higher return rate of people paying bills but the frustration people have would definitely go away. This could even possibly lead to more transactions done online especially during these covid times.
Well. Thats it from me. Short post, getting harder to find things to write about. Someone make me angry so I can furiously blog about it. Thanks.
